There are several factors to consider when choosing which netbook will cover your portable computing needs [22/01 03:47AM]

There are plenty of inexpensive laptops out there, but testers caution—beware of rock-bottom prices. According to Consumer Reports, some computer makers use single-core processors instead of dual-core to save money. But if you buy one of those so-called bargains, you might end up with a slower computer.

There are several factors to consider when choosing which netbook will cover your portable computing needs. Will you be using it for productivity? Watch movies on a plane? Writing? Or will it just be used to check email once in a while?

That means you can create a fairly compelling Netbook using HP(HP dv8000 Battery)'s online configurator, but it'll also be an expensive one as anything above the baseline adds significant cost. At a time when HD displays are becoming the norm, our US$424 review unit has only a standard 1,024 x 600-pixel resolution, 10-inch display, along with a single-core Intel Atom N450 processor, Windows 7 Starter Edition, and 1GB of RAM.

So what's an OS to do? I think there are serious opportunities for evolution available to the Microsofts, Apples(A1175 Battery) and Ubuntus of the world, but they involve embracing new technologies in new ways. And stealing a ton of ideas from phones. A finger on a screen is not a mouse on a pad, an internet browser is not the end-all be-all of the internet, and playing Crysis in a quad HD resolution at 60 fps is not the ultimate expression of gaming for 95% of the population. Join me as I explore a few bits of legacy cruft that need to be addressed before the desktop OS can become as important to this decade as it was to the last one.

The most famous feature of the Web OS, however, is its ability to collate multiple calendars, address books and e-mail accounts. For example, it can show the appointments from your Google Calendar, Yahoo calendar, Outlook calendar and Facebook events on a single, color-coded screen.

Dell(Inspiron 6400 Battery) is committed to providing the best products at the best price. See our special offers on our Mini and netbooks to find the computer that you are sure to love.

The world's largest brewer, Anheuser-Busch InBev SA, shut down production in its home country Wednesday, in an escalation of a standoff over job cuts with its Belgian workers that is causing beer shortages in shops. Workers began blockading three AB InBev breweries two weeks ago to protest cutting up to 263 jobs as part of a plan to reduce the company's European work force by 10 percent. Based in Leuven, Belgium, FPCBP115,AB InBev sold 3.1 percent less beer in the three months ended Sept. 30. Revenue for the quarter was $9.76 billion, down from combined revenue from Anheuser and InBev of $10.89 billion before November's takeover.

Why would you want an e-reader when you could buy a gadget about the same size that could also play movies? Though some believe that the non-backlit nature of E Ink is one of the major advantages of e-readers like the Kindle and Nook, I believe that there's a whole generation of potential tablet-takers out there (I am part of it) that doesn't find backlit screens to be hard on the eyes. Just turn them down a bit, and they're easier to read than a book (and you don't need to be sitting near a lamp).

The Sony(VGP-BPS2A battery) VAIO CW comes with a 14-inch LED backlit screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio, supporting a maximum resolution of 1366x768, and a 1.3MP webcam is recessed on its top bezel. The Sony VAIO CW's screen isn't as bright as the Samsung R470's but at par with the likes of Dell Inspiron 14z and Lenovo Ideapad Y450. It offers good viewing angles and watching movies as well as reading text is pretty good.

CNET has posted a detailed reviews of the HP(HP DV6000 battery) Mini 5102. Overall, they found it to be much the same as the Mini 5101, which is to say it’s an excellent mini-laptop. But aside from the new processor, there’s not really much setting the HP Mini 5102 apart from its predecessor. If you want to shell out the extra cash for an optional touchscreen or other premium features, then the Mini 5102 looks like the way to go. But if you’re just looking for a netbook with good build quality and a low price tag, you might be better off looking for a deal on a refurbished or overstock Mini 5101.
